TMS Guide - FAQ

How do I sign up for TMS?

Please call our office to set up your TMS intake with Julie, our TMS Coordinator.
During the (intake) initial assessment you will meet with Dr. Sipple and Julie who will go over the risks and benefits of TMS and your medical history.
It normally takes about 1 hour to complete the assessment.

If TMS Therapy is right for you, Dr. Sipple will create a plan for your treatment.

Our office will proceed with obtaining a medical clearance from your PCP along with a prior authorization from your insurance company.

This process may take up to 2 weeks before we schedule you for your first TMS appointment.

What should I expect during my first TMS visit?

During your first visit Dr. Sipple will perform your brain mapping and motor threshold determination. The mapping session will specify what dosage (intensity) of TMS treatment is required. Once the mapping and coil placement are done, you will receive your first treatment.

How long is each TMS treatment?

In our office we use MagVenture rTMS and the protocol treatment lasts 3 min 8 sec per session.

How many sessions TMS Therapy requires?

The typical schedule of TMS therapy is 30 sessions (5 days a week over 6-week period). We then follow with 6 sessions of taper off.

What does TMS stimulation feel like?

The most common description of the sensation of TMS is that of being tapped on the scalp.

Do I have to be a patient at your practice to receive TMS treatment?

No, you do not have to be a patient. However, Dr. Sipple will be your TMS psychiatrist during your TMS treatment.
